20/02/2008 Steve Turner Steve Turner comes from a family of singers and concertina players. His grandfather was known to have sung and played the instrument in the 1890's.

Steve began his career on the Manchester folk scene at the end of the 1960s. Joining the Geordie band "Canny Fettle" in 1970, he made two albums and toured in Britain and Europe with them for eight years.

In 1979, he won the Melody Maker "Stars of the 80s" national competition, which persuaded him to turn professional for 12 years until 1991. During this time he made four solo albums with Fellside Records and toured internationally.

Steve Tilston is a celebrated British singer-songwriter, winning as much praise for his superb guitar playing as his songwriting and vocal style.

His canon of work is widely recognised within the world of folk and contemporary music throughout Europe, Australia and the USA.

Born in Liverpool and raised in the Midlands of England, Steve has been ploughing his own artistic furrow, turning out quality albums since the early 1970s. In the past Steve has toured as guitarist with Ballet Rambert; as a member of Ship of Fools; with John Renbourn; and more recently WAZ!

30/04/2008 Dark Horse After playing to audiences at Otley, Hardraw and Masham festivals in 2007, Dark Horse return make a welcome return to the Folk Club.

Although going through some lineup changes, three of the original members - Rachael Sutcliffe, Cameron Edgar and Mark Mawby have combined with East Yorkshire percussionist Martin King to form a new improved Dark Horse.

In addition to Rachael's harp and Cameron's pipes, the sound will be augmented by fiddle (as well as guitar) from Mark, and and an array of percussion from Martin. Those who heard Dark Horse in 2007 will be delighted to hear old favourites as well as challenging new material ready for 2008.

John Kirkpatrick is one of the most well-known and popular performers on the British folk scene. He is regarded as England’s leading exponent of ‘squeezebox’ instruments. His remarkable skill with accordion, concertina and melodeon has taken him from folk dancing to experimental rock music and a wide range of international recording collaborations. This long and varies career has involved him in some of the most significant developments in the folk revival over the past twenty five years.
Folkworks said of him "One of the major figures of the English Folk scene, John is much acclaimed as a musician, composer, singer, songwriter... in fact he could be called the Renaissance Man of folk music".

28/05/2008 Ben Needham and Robin Petty Although friends since primary school, Ben Needham and Robin Petty only collaborated to form an acoustic duo in relatively recent years. Their live set includes a strong element of traditional music in addition to self-penned material and selections from contemporary singer-songwriters.

They have performed across Lancashire and Yorkshire at a variety of folk clubs, music festivals and acoustic pub sessions and have featured on local radio.
